How to find the server your DFS Namespace Client is talking to

When setting up Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) between multiple file servers, you may want to know which file server your DFS namesace client is communicating with.

To find this out use the DFSUTIL program with the pktinfo switch. Any ACTIVE TARGETSET servers are servers your workstation is currently talking to.

dfsutil /pktinfo

Alternatively you can right click in a DFS share under explorer and select Properties.

Hit the DFS Tab

  1. Also when you are writing about finding servers, you should mention how to track server and see if it is dedicated or it's shared. The best way to track server is using the next web page http://www.servertrackr.com/track-server , it's very simple and free of charge. You need just IP or a url of website, you paste one of them onto 'lookup' field. Now you just need to press the lookup button and watch how magic is happening. You can find all domains listed on one server, and also even you can see it's gelocation(state, city.longitude, latitude) an much more. You also beneath have google maps which graphically shows you location of the server on the map. And conclusion that come along with my post is that Servertrackr.com is very useful tool which can provide you lots of informations about specified server.
